A Quick Look at Port Louis’ Central Market

Jack Fruit at the Market

We began the morning wandering through Port Louis’ Central Market. The colourful fruit and vegetable aisles were buzzing, full of vegetables I didn’t recognize, but it was the butchery section that really stood out. It was lovely seeing how no part of the animal goes to waste, and not a plastic wrapper in sight.

Breakfast on the Street: Dhol Puri

Before heading north, we stopped for a dhol puri — warm, soft, generously filled. Simple, perfect street breakfast fuel.

Driving North: Grand Baie & Mon Choisy

Back in the car, we drove up to Grand Baie, a lively and much busier resort town. The bay was dotted with yachts gently bobbing in the sunshine.

From there, we continued on to Mon Choisy, where we stopped at a beach shack for lunch:

My Bol Magique, named after the shack.
  • Rice & chicken bowl for me
  • Smoked marlin salad for Ed

Checking In: Voile Bleue, Trou aux Biches

We arrived at our next stop, Voile Bleue, a relaxed beachfront hotel in Trou aux Biches. After checking in, we spent some time by the pool and took a walk into town.

We made it back just in time to walk out over the lava rocks on the beach for a beautiful sunset

Dinner & a Quiet Evening

We found a steak restaurant for dinner, then strolled back to the hotel for a quiet drink by the pool before heading to bed. A gentle, simple end to a full day.
