🌊Mauritius – Snorkelling, Port Louis & A Chinatown Food Hunt

Today started on Flic en Flac beach, one of the easiest spots on the west coast for a quick snorkel. The sea was calm and clear, and even close to shore there were plenty of fish drifting around the corals. Nothing dramatic, just an easy swim and a good way to wake up.

đź«“ Breakfast: Roti from a Beach Snack Van recommended by our hosts at Maison Tropicale

After drying off, we grabbed roti from one of the snack vans parked along the beach. Simple, hot, and cheap — stuffed with curry and chutneys. Easily one of the best breakfasts we’ve had here, eaten sitting on a wall looking at the sea.

🧳 Check-Out & Drive to Port Louis

We packed up and checked out of Maison Tropicale, then drove north to Port Louis. Traffic was busy but manageable, we checked in to our apartment and set off to explore.

🚶‍♂️ Wandering the Caudan Waterfront

Umbrellas at Caudan

The Caudan Waterfront is an easy place to wander — shops, shaded walkways, marina views, and a mix of locals on lunch breaks and visitors exploring. We walked along the harbour, looked at the craft stalls, and then stopped at the Blue Penny Museum for a short visit. It’s small but a neat introduction to the island’s postal history and early colonial art.

Chinatown

🍜 Chinatown – Second Attempt Wins

We headed across town to Port Louis Chinatown, hoping for street food. When we first arrived, most places were closed, so we gave up and planned to return later.

Second time around was much better — we found a small spot serving hand-pulled noodles, made fresh and served steaming hot. Exactly the kind of quick bite we were looking for.

🏡 Back to the Apartment

After wandering back across town, we drove to the apartment for a quiet evening. Quick showers, clothes unpacked, and a bit of downtime before deciding what tomorrow looks like.
