Day Two

We were awake early — not entirely by choice.

A JCB on the beach was busy shifting stones along the shoreline, the unmistakable sound carrying straight up to the room.

Not exactly peaceful… but oddly fascinating to watch.

And when you’ve got that view, you don’t really mind.

Digger moving stone

Markets & Morning Wandering

After breakfast overlooking the sea, we wandered through the brocante market on the Cours Saleya — always one of the best places in Nice for a morning stroll.

Antiques, bits of everything, the usual mix of beautiful and slightly baffling finds.

We stopped for coffee and ended up people-watching outside the Palais de Justice, where TV crews had gathered — presumably following election results from the day before.

There was a real buzz about the place, a mix of locals, tourists, and media all circling the same square.

Train to Antibes

We walked up to the station and jumped on the train to Antibes to meet friends who live there.

It’s such an easy journey along the coast — quick, scenic, and far less hassle than driving.

Streets of Antibes

Terrace Drinks & A Lively Lunch

We started with drinks on our friends terrace in the sunshine —

Then headed out for lunch at a busy little corner restaurant, absolutely packed and full of atmosphere.

The kind of place you’d walk past and immediately want to sit down at.

Simple, buzzy, and exactly right.

A walk around the ramparts

After lunch, we took a wander around the Antibes ramparts.

Always worth it for the views alone — sea on one side, old town on the other.

“And then… an interesting statue — a man poised mid-dive over the sea, balancing on the edge of the ramparts. Called Le Défi, it’s meant to represent stepping into the unknown… although we mostly noticed the ‘attention to detail’.”

Back to Nice & A Reset

We hopped back on the train to Nice, had a bit of a reset back at the hotel

But first… a small highlight.

The hotel offered a complimentary glass of champagne, which we took straight up to the balcony just in time for sunset.

Sunset Promenade des Anglais

— rest, bath, and a pause before heading out again.

The perfect rhythm to the day.

Dinner at Casa Tua

Petits Farcis Nicois

Dinner was at Casa Tua — a small, cosy restaurant that felt like a real find.

Warm, relaxed, and quietly charming.

A lovely contrast to the busier places we’d been earlier in the day.

Exactly the kind of spot you hope to stumble across.
